Rugs - go crazy or go neutral

A rug is an accessory like shoes are for an outfit. Either you go for a statement rug that defines the space, like your fabulous Jimmy Choos with a LBD, or you harmonize the place by setting a stage for the art or furniture to shine.

The statement rug

A crazy rug is like the element of surprise in your space. It can lift up a boring corridor or add a twist to a traditional staircase like this welcoming alligator print carpet runner in the Chloe hotel in New Orleans.

The harmonizing rug

If the focal point of a space is the art or furniture, then the rug sets the stage and enhances our experience of the art/furniture. Its colors, texture, and shape contribute to creating a cohesive scheme and tie disparate pieces together.

The rug, part of the conversation

In this residential project, the client’s living room is a large space with a formal sitting area and a cozy TV corner. The former is composed of a bold architectural sofa with a pair of armchairs in a vibrant floral pattern (designed by JP Gaulthier) while the latter is furnished with a comfortable L-shape sofa in neutral tones. To divide the space, we selected two rugs. The first reinforces the design scheme with its organic lines echoing the branches in the floral pattern. The second creates a contrast to the sofa’s grey upholstery with its intricate geometric patterns. The result is an exciting conversation between furniture and rugs, offering space for each element to sparkle.
